Grants available
Grants are offered to the parents of children under the age of 18, and to young people not having reached age 25 in the categories set out below.
-
Children under the age of 16 attending state maintained primary schools at
Witnesham or Henley. The grant should be used towards the cost of school uniform,
sports gear and equipment, extra tuition fees for music, art, sport and other
expenses including outings linked to school attendance, but outside the basic
school curriculum. The Trustees of the Foundation may make further enquiries from
the school attended when an application for a grant is made. Any grant paid to
parents/guardians of a child is required to be used for the child's educational
benefit.
Does your child/children under 16 live within the benefit area? If yes then complete form A.
-
Children taking 'A' level or comparable courses, including vocational courses
at recognised colleges of education. Such grants are made to assist with course
fees, purchase of books, equipment, instruments, and other educational material.

-
Young people who are following full time or sandwich courses of further education,
of a vocational or academic nature leading to a recognised qualification or
certificate of achievement. Grants paid to young people attending university,
colleges, or other institutions offering courses of full time education should be
used for educational purposes linked with the course to be followed. Those aged
between 18 and 24 are not required to provide evidence of need at present, but the
Trustees reserve the right to change this if circumstances deem this necessary.
Are you aged between 18 and 24 and following a full time or sandwich course of further education and living in the benefit area? If yes then complete form B.
-
Special grants may be available for other educational purposes such as for tuition and expenses
in music and other arts, outward bound courses, and other activities of a general
educational nature. Applications for such grants are individually assessed by the
Trustees and are dependent on unallocated funds available at the time. In all cases, the Trustees
would expect to see evidence of some need, e.g. travel expenses or equipment, before exercising
their discretion to make an award.
Are you receiving extra curricular tuition or following such a course and living in the benefit area? If yes then complete form B.
-
We are also able to consider discretionary grants for:
- Those training in a trade or apprenticeship
- Vacation work experience
- Those undertaking part time courses of study
- Post graduate internship
Some of these positions may be paid and in all cases the Trustees would expect to see evidence of some need, e.g. travel expenses and level of remuneration, before exercising their discretion to make an award.
Are you following such a course and living in the benefit area? If yes then complete form B.

In exceptional circumstances, small grants may be offered to families with children at
fee paying schools, to meet commitments to school fees where death, severe ill health,
or redundancy has occurred. This would be to assist a child to continue in the next step
in their educational studies at an independent fee-paying school, and to supplement help
already being offered by the school, and where not to do so, might jeopardise the child’s
future educational prospects. Such grants are usually limited to no more than two years.
If you wish to enquire and live within the benefit area, write to the Trust with full details (Contact us).
-
Grants are available to assist the state maintained primary schools in the area with
funds for items of expenditure (usually capital expenditure) which are not normally
provided by the educational authority. Examples of this in the past have included
library books and stage equipment and platforms. Applications for such grants usually
require advance notice of several months.

-
Charitable Organisations may receive grants if they are operating in the area of benefit,
and their specific objects include the advancement of the education of, or the improvement
of the conditions of life for, young people who have not attained the age of 25, by
developing their physical, mental and moral capabilities through their leisure-time
activities. Such charitable organisations may be required to provide evidence of the
formal instruction offered, and of the involvement of suitably qualified persons, using
prescribed methods of learning, and assessment of progress of the children and young
people receiving instruction.
